Research Value

Members gain access to T&S asset management knowledge and expertise to help implement best practices and address specific challenges in a timely manner, and to stay informed about important asset management issues.

The project provides:

  • Technical resources for information on the overarching asset management principles and examples of processes and practices for effective and efficient implementation.
  • Asset performance metrics.
  • Asset characterization data specifications.
  • Knowledge sharing among members.
  • Identification of new areas for potential research collaboration.

Results from the R&D could improve the quality of service by reducing unplanned outages and costs and improving customer satisfaction and service availability.

  • Technical resources for information on the overarching asset management principles and examples of processes and practices for effective and efficient power delivery implementation.
  • A forum for utilities to exchange information, experiences, and lessons learned.
  • Knowledge about new and emerging tools for improving asset management through advanced data analytics and decision support.
  • Asset performance metrics and asset characterization data specification.

Key Activities for 2023

The project includes the collection of case studies and hosting of forums for technology transfer and information exchange and the development of:

  • Metrics for Managing and Assessing Transmission Asset Performance: EPRI intends to survey members and other power delivery organizations to better understand the metrics presently used to manage and assess transmission asset performance.
  • Data Specification for Asset Performance Analysis: EPRI intends to provide a catalogue of what asset characterization data, including demographic and condition assessments, are useful as inputs to EPRI asset management analytics and the formats required by those analytics.
  • Asset Management Analytics and Asset Health Systems Webcasts (Analytic Wednesdays): EPRI intends to conduct a series of Web-based workshops presenting the research findings. The workshops are intended to be a forum for utilities to:
    • Exchange information, experiences, and lessons learned.
    • Identify knowledge gaps, needed capabilities, and research topics; and
    • Learn about new and emerging tools for improving analytics and methodologies for developing and implementing enhanced asset management applications and asset health indices
