Task: Insulator Reference Book
Task Description: Document information about transmission line insulators learned through in-service experience and research.

- Adding mechanical considerations for insulator articulation
Task: Studying the Shattering Characteristics of Glass Insulators
Task Description: This task intends to study the how the remains a broken glass insulator and learn the characteristics that distinguish between being broken by physical impact (e.g., accidental hit or vandalism) and being broken by other means (e.g., inclusion or flashover).
Update:
- More than 50 test samples have been created and studied.
- Several in-service failures have been studied and compared to the lab created samples.
- A dozen samples shattered during steep front impulse testing and are enroute to Charlotte for analysis.
Task: Evaluation of the Performance of RTV-Coated Insulators
Task Description: Manufactured RTV-coated glass insulators are relatively new to the market and have limited worldwide experience. This task intends to evaluate how RTV coatings perform in various service environments.
Update:
- Evaluating the long term aging performance of sample from the accelerated aging chamber.
- Planning to acquire an RTV coating to manually apply and assess their performance.
