Overhead Line Ratings and Increased Power Flow

Project 35.013

There is an industry need to increase power flow in the transmission system and better utilize existing assets. The ability to transport more power in a flexible and reliable manner allows utilities to adapt to load growth, contingencies, extreme weather, and with incorporating renewable generation. The focus of this project is on identification, validation, and comparative assessment of method to increase capacity. This will guide utilities in the selection and adoption of hardware, software, and practices for transmission ratings.
