Physical Security

The energy sector’s assets, systems, and networks are so vital that their incapacitation or destruction could have a debilitating effect on national security, the economy, and/or employee and public health and safety. Intentional attacks against electric power systems include sabotage, theft, disruption of sensors and information systems, and physical assault and destruction. It is very important to protect the assets and personnel who operate this critical infrastructure.

This project seeks to enhance resilience and reduce the potential of disruptions and/or damage by better understanding physical security threats and consequences, and then finding or developing better ways to assess, prevent, and defend against these threats.

EPRI conducted separate R&D focused on counter-UAS activities via two phases of a supplemental project. That work has now been incorporated into this all-encompassing physical security project.
