Project Updates, News, and FAQs

Latest Project News

The EPRIU for Transmission project adds new content each year, and updates existing content as needed. Material is released as soon as it is available. Project update meetings are routinely held for current funders, and instructor-led training is spread throughout the calendar year. Starting in 2022, EPRIU for Transmission became eligible to offer NERC Certified System Operators credit towards their certification renewals upon successful completion of certain approved courses.

Planned Tasks

Continuing to build on the momentum created in the three years of the project, EPRIU for Transmission is expanding its catalog of available training material. Refusing to trade quality for quantity, this is being done at a methodical pace, based on member feedback and available resources.

In 2024, new computer-based training courses are expected including Power Systems Dynamics: System Restoration and Insulator contamination and leakage current monitoring. Several webinar training sessions are expected, including transformer basics, NESC C2-2023 Clearances Part 1, and NESC C2-2023 Clearances Part 2. Building on 2023, face-to-face workshops, including Composite Structures Workshop: Theory, Research, and Applications, Inspection & Assessment Workshop, Line Design Workshop and Line Switches Workshop will also be offered.

FAQ

How come I can’t get into EPRI’s Learning Management System/register for an event/take the training?

  • The first thing to check is…when did you create your EPRI.com account? We’ve found that much of the time, the user just created their EPRI.com account that same day, and it usually takes an overnight refresh of the systems to get the access turned on. Another common reason is also timing-related, and EPRI might be waiting on your company to complete the paperwork to join the project. You can always ask us for help at EU4T@EPRI.COM

How many people can watch a webinar/take a computer-based training module/view a video? And how much does each one cost?

  • For practical purposes, it’s unlimited for those types of training material and is available to the entire company, not just specific departments. Face-to-face sessions might have literal seating limits. As far as the costs are concerned, project participants don’t get charged any additional fees, just an annual cost.

Can I earn Professional Development Hours (PDH)?

  • Yes! Professional Development Hours (PDH) are often needed to obtain and maintain various certifications and licenses. Most of the courses will award PDH upon successful completion, and your certificates are available in the LMS.

What about maintaining my credentials as a NERC Certified System Operator (NCSO)?

  • Started in 2022, EPRIU4-T reached a new level of success. Certain eligible courses are now NERC-approved for System Operators to earn training hours towards maintaining their certifications. Upon successful completion, an NCSO can email their certificate number to EU4T@EPRI.COM, and the EU4T staff will verify the training and log it into NERC’s SOCCED system for you.
