Project Description

EPRI has worker safety-related R&D embedded in multiple programs across the Institute. While safety is a key driver of much of the research, there is no central forum where all safety topics are addressed. To address this gap, EPRI is launching a new Transmission and Substations Safety Interest Group (TSIG) to provide a forum to discuss key research needs.

This interest group will represent a dedicated channel to gather and discuss safety topics, as well as generate ideas for high-value research activities to address existing and emerging issues. TSIG is intended to be complementary to existing efforts in the safety space, including EPRI’s Enterprise-Wide Occupational Health and Safety program (P62), Distribution Safety Work (P180.004) and the Safety by Design and Switching Safety and Reliability supplemental projects.

The group is envisioned to host robust discussion on safety topics, with articulation of key research gaps that EPRI could play a role in addressing. As a result, new base and/or supplemental projects may be added to EPRI’s overall research portfolio.

Research Value

The expected benefits EPRI is aiming for with TSIG include being able to:

  • Provide an opportunity to discuss safety topics related to Transmission and Substations.
  • Identify unmet industry safety needs and gaps
  • Gain a better understanding of the safety challenges faced by T&S members
  • Hold collaborative discussions on possible solutions to various identified issues

How to Get Engaged

By design, participating in EPRI interest groups couldn’t be easier. There’s no cost, no paperwork needed, and all you have to do is show up (face-to-face or call-in depending on the meeting).
